Welcome to our second event in 2023, Moving Forward with Professor Augusto Zimmermann, Professor Anthony Gray and Emeritus Professor Gabriel Moens
The topic of this event is ‘Death of free speech and critical thinking in Australia’.
We are also privileged to be hosting a Book launch of Professor’s Zimmermann’s latest book ‘Wokeshevism: Critical Theories and the Tyrant Left’, co-authored with Joshua Forrester and to which Professor Gray and Professor Gabriel Moens are contributors.
Gabriël A. Moens AM
Gabriël A. Moens AM is an Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Queensland and an Adjunct Professor at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney, and at Curtin University. He is an award-winning author who has researched and written widely in the areas of jurisprudence, constitutional law and arbitration. In 2019, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to legal education.
Professor Moens will introduce Professor Zimmermann and cover the topic of “Being Awake to Woke”.
Augusto Zimmermann
Augusto Zimmermann PhD, LLM, LLB, CIArb, DipEd is Professor of Constitutional Law and Head of Law at the Sheridan Institute of Higher Education, Perth. He is also a former Law Reform Commissioner of Western Australian and a former Associate Dean (Research) and Postgraduate Research Director at Murdoch University’s School of Law. He is the founder and President of the Western Australian Legal Theory Association, a former Vice-President of the Australasian Society of Legal Philosophy, an Elected Fellow at the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family, and Editor-in-Chief of the Western Australian Jurist law journal. Professor Zimmermann will cover the topic of “Wokeshevism: Critical Theories and the Tyrant Left” as an emerging issue worldwide and how to resist it lawfully and peacefully.
Anthony Gray
Anthony Gray is a Professor of Law at the University of Southern Queensland. He held numerous positions throughout his career including Associate Dean of Law. He is a former Director of Schools and Community Education at the Queensland Law Society and has published a number of research monographs, including two on freedom of speech, and has published approximately 140 refereed research articles.
Professor Gray will present on the topic of “Freedom of Speech and Critical Race Theory”. The talk will discuss the importance of freedom of speech and the way in which some critics argue it needs to be significantly restricted.
Our guest speaker will participate in the Q & A session after the presentation to help us explore the options available to us, and ways to move forward.
As with our previous events, and as per request of some community members, we have enabled ‘Pay it Forward’ option within tickets where you may wish to add that to your cart at checkout.

ENTRY Fee: $10 per person, non-refundable to help cover the cost of event outlays.
Free parking available onsite. Bring your water/refreshments. This is an alcohol free event.
Places are limited.
